No, it is not. You get 1 month to play online, then you have to pay usin a credit card or a card with a code dependin on how much time you want for a gold membership (1 month, 3 months, or 1 year). Then when you don't have a gold mem., you can't join XBox Live parties or play anyone online.
In all truth, you should've just waited for the XBox Kinect to come out.
